Mac Powder Kiss

devoted to chilli and impulsive

Recently I posted a get ready with me on IGTV where I used one of my favourite nude lip combos – MAC Impulsive lipstick with Toast and Butter lipliner. This is my fail safe, go to lip look when I don’t know what to go for, and it got me thinking.

MAC is being left behind. What was once the go to brand for high end makeup is no longer as exciting. It’s rare I find myself browsing what they have to offer, but when it comes to lipstick I still hold MAC highly. Recently I was after a red lipstick and despite looking at some of my makeup faves – Nars, Charlotte Tilbury, Fenty, Glossier – I picked MAC. There’s something about their lipsticks that evidently keeps me coming back despite being initially drawn to other brands who are now doing it even better. Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks offer a more comfortable, luxe matte formula; Fenty Beauty offers incredibly pigmented colours; Glossier offers an effortless, easy lip. But there’s one formula by MAC which I really dig.

MAC Powder Kiss Lipsticks

When I first heard about these lipsticks, I admit I was put off by the name. Powder lips? No thanks. But how wrong I was. These are an interestingly light weight and comfortable, soft matte formula. Very different to their original matte line which can tend to feel heavy and drying. These provide a buttery smooth texture that glides on your lips, creating a cool diffused finish. The type of lip popular on runways but which you can apply with minimal effort. Because of this, however they’re not very long lasting and a lip liner can be essential. This is also a good idea if you want a more polished look from the lipstick, removing the blurred edge but keeping the light, comfortable finish, which is how I prefer to wear them. They also smell (and taste) so good which is kind of unexpected.

My original shade Impulsive is a warm brown shade which is a perfect nude for me. While Devoted to Chilli is a warm brick red which I like to pair with MAC’s Brick lip pencil for days where I want to feel more bold and confident. There’s at least three more shades I have my eye on at the moment – Mull It Over, a dirty peach; Stay Curious a muted pinky red; Sultry Move, a rose brown. Yes please MAC.
