20 things I’ve learnt in 20 years

20 things I've learnt

So incase you don’t know, tomorrow is my 20th birthday and I’ll no longer be a teenager (since when was I so old?!). And since I’m soon to be officially ancient, I thought I’d reflect on all the things I’ve learnt about myself or am starting to realise from the past 20 years. After all, 2016 is the year of realising things – thanks Kylie Jenner!

When we’re young we’re learning how to do everything – stand, walk, talk etc. But as you age you’re no longer just learning how to do things. You’re learning more about yourself and the people who surround you. And so I think it’s really important to reflect on your life every now and then to see how you’ve grown and what you’ve learnt. Recently I found my old diaries I wrote during sixthform. It’s crazy to think that 3 years ago that was my life, but now it’s just memories. Soon what I live now will also be memories and who knows where I’ll be in the next 3 years…

But anyways, onto the list:

  1. I am strong – like many people, I have had a lot of sadness in my life so far and yet I’m still here. I’m still smiling and getting on with my life and that to me is strength
  2. Although I am strong, I am still uber sensitive but that’s okay
  3. It’s important to trust the process – things happen when the time is right so chill out a bit
  4. I am really bad with money, as hard as I try not to, I just love to spend… soz Mr Santander
  5. If I want something I’ll eventually give in no matter how long I resist, hence number 4 lol
  6. I love spending time with and chatting to my friends all day long
  7. But I need my alone, stay in bed all day days
  8. Brunch is the most important meal of the day
  9. I like to plan and get ahead – ‘The secret of getting ahead is getting started.’ – Mark Twain
  10. Although it’s tempting to escape into your memories, it’s important to live in the now
  11. I am still shy
  12. Naps are life and I could not survive uni without them
  13. A bit of a cliché, but family really is everything
  14. Whenever I didn’t want to do something when I was younger, my mum would always tell me ‘Things will be alright once you get there’. And she’s right, they will
  15. People and friendships grow and change, you can’t expect people to stay the same
  16. I will never stop loving fast food, no matter what I learn at uni and even when I’m a registered nutritionist lol – now pass me a bucket of kfc pls
  17. I love writing lists
  18. Shrek will never get old, no matter how many times you watch it
  19. I will always be excited about birthdays… especially mine hehe
  20. And finally, time goes soooo fast – how am I 20?!?!?!

So that’s about all I can think of. Who knows what else I’ll learn this year.

Thank you for reading,
LindyC
