Origins Christmas Gift Sets

‘Tis the season to buy myself christmas gift sets.

I love a good gift set and I feel no shame in buying them for myself. There’s nothing better than being able to try new products in a smaller size before committing to a full tube/bottle/tub of the stuff.

Whilst shopping in John Lewis, I was on the hunt for a new face mask from Origins. If you read my skincare routine post, you’ll know I love their Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask. This is a staple mask in my collection and never fails to make my skin feel amazing. But since the cold weather has come in full swing, I’m starting to fear the dry skin which is looming towards me. I’d heard good things about their overnight moisture mask but wasn’t sure if this was the one. So of course, like any sensible human being, I asked the lady at the Origins counter. Can I just say how lovely she was. And boy did she know how to sell, because I left with my purse feeling considerably lighter.

But don’t worry Mr Santander, there was 10% off!

After being talked through all of the different masks and what each one does, obviously I wanted them all. In comes the Mask Marvels Gift Set of my dreams. In this are three 50ml face masks and a small bottle of their Maskimizer skin-optimising mask primer. Amazing. This set comes to £30 (but look out for 10% off deals like I was able to use), which is amazing as one full sized mask (100ml) costs £24! And not only is it great value for money, it means I get to try out two new masks. And I can never have too many tubes of Clear Improvement.

Original Skin

This is an exfoliating mask which only requires a thin layer and dries within ten minutes. Perfect for a morning face mask or when you don’t want to make a whole night of pampering out of it. This leaves my skin feeling polished and smooth. It’s really rare that I use a physical exfoliator i.e. with beads like this and so it’s more of a two in one product. And as only a thin layer is needed, I can tell this bottle is going to last ages. Bargain.

Drink Up Intensive

This is a creamy lotion mask. For this you apply a thick layer to your skin and leave it to sink in overnight. It does feel quite sticky when you go to sleep but in the morning you wake up with soft, plump skin. This is quite intense and so for my skin I only use it when I think I need it. And although it feels like you’re smothering your face in peach body butter it’s all worth it.

Clear Improvement

This is a charcoal mask – and everyone knows charcoal is amazing for your skin! I find it drastically improves the texture of my skin after each use, clearing my pores and making my face as soft as a baby’s bottom. Although it takes quite a while to dry compared to Original Skin, it is incredible. This will always be my favourite mask ever.

I once read a blog post about doing an at home facial. This involves using three face masks – first an exfoliant, then a charcoal mask and finally a hydrating mask. This gift set ticks all those boxes and so of course I gave this a go. I have no idea if this is at all what a facial is like as I’ve never had one, so this could be skincare overkill. But in theory it does make sense. First you use an exfoliatating mask, followed by a pore refining mask and finally you rehydrate your skin using a moisturising mask. Obviously this takes a lot of time and so I did it on a day when I was feeling down and needed a pamper. And it worked! My skin was left feeling super soft and even looked clearer and brighter the next day. A full skin detox.

Maskimizer

This is a skin primer which you simply spritz over your face. It supposedly softens and hydrates your skin ready for your mask to be applied on top. I can’t say if this has made any difference to my skin, but I still use it if I remember to. I find it makes the clear improvements mask slightly easier to remove but I’m still not convinced. This is definitely not something I’d buy on it’s own – if a mask is good it shouldn’t need a primer, surely? However like I said, it does make clay masks easier to remove and maybe if you have dry skin this could make using clay masks less uncomfortable. But I wouldn’t say this is a necessity for me.

And if that wasn’t enough, I also bought the Go Ginger gift set. This contains Ginger Burst Savory body wash, Incredible Spreadable Smoothing ginger body scrub and Ginger Souffle Whipped body cream. I tested out the whipped body cream there and then and was hooked by the scent from first use. It reminds me of green starbursts but with a spicy, ginger kick to it. It’s incredible. If the lady at the counter hadn’t got me to try it out, I’d have never picked it up. ‘Ginger’ doesn’t give the scent justice. Altogether they make an amazing experience and when combined the layered fragrance is mesmerising. If you can’t tell already, I am in love with this scent. This was only £15 which I also think would make a great gift.

Have you tried any of Origins products?
