What’s on my bookshelf?

AKA the books I’ve bought and been too lazy to read…

According to The Little Book of Hygge ‘Tsundoko’ is a Japanese word used to describe the constant act of buying books but never reading them. This is something I really identify with. If you read my new year’s resolutions you’ll know one of mine is to read 12 books this year. Well, lets just say the first two months of the year have not been successful in this area hahah. But this doesn’t mean I’ve not bought books! Currently there are 4 books on my to read pile which I do want to read and hopefully will have the time to soon. So no this isn’t a book review, it’s more of a you might also like to read these.

Onto the books!

Everything, Everything

I first heard about this book through Zoella’s bookclub (lol) and as I’d really enjoyed We Were Liars, also recommended by her, I thought I’d give it a go. This is about a 17 year old who is allergic to the outside world so has never left her house. And when a new neighbour moves in next door it turns into a bit of a love story from what I’ve heard. Oooo! This is a book which many people have said they read in one sitting which appeals to me a lot. I love big, long, juicy story lines but I do find sometimes it feels as though I’m forcing myself to continue reading. So this is perfect. A proper page turner. This book may sound familiar as it’s being made into a film – another reason why I want to read the book!

The Girl On The Train

The book everyone was reading a couple of months ago! I decided to read this purely due to the hype. But was also incredibly intrigued as it’s a psychological thriller. I like the idea of being shocked by twists and turns and being kept on the edge of my seat. Again this is also a film which I’d like to watch once I’ve read the book. The story is narrated by three women all with eventually intertwining lives. From what I know, this book shows how in one moment everything can change. And I am really excited to eventually get stuck in.

The Couple Next Door

Once again this is a thriller which is said to be fast paced and a real page turner. In this story a couple’s baby goes missing while at a dinner party next door. There’s a theme of not knowing who your neighbours really are and what you are capable of. It’s again meant to be an incredible page turner with shocking, unexpected twists and turns throughout. This book was actually a gift from Santa and was the WHSmith Book of the Year for 2016. So of course it must be good haha.

Before I Fall

This is a young adult book about a teenager who dies but is then forced to relive her last day for a week. Will she change how she spends the day? Will she treat people differently? Can she stop her death? These are all the questions I think will be asked when reading this book. AGAIN this is being adapted into a film – yawn I know – but I just can’t resist wanting to read the book before watching the film! People have said this book has changed how they think about their own lives and the choices they make. Very interesting stuff.

Let’s hope I finally read these books before buying more!

But if you’d like to read an actual book review post you can read what I read in Summer 2016 here.

What’s on your reading list?

Until next time!

Good luck with reading! I am a compulsive buyer of books, but I do read them! Last year I read 34 books and I’m aiming for similar this year. Currently on book number 6. These all sound good, but the only one I’ve read is The Girl on the Train. I would definitely recommend it!
