When it comes to beauty, there are a few unspoken rules. Foundation before concealer, shampoo before conditioner, and eyeliner before mascara. But what happens when we switch things up? I have a friend who swears by using conditioner before shampoo. And recently I’ve converted to mascara before eyeliner. You what?!
I’ve been a lover and wearer of eyeliner for the past 4/5 years. To me there’s nothing like a cat flick to add a lil’ something to your look. And eyeliner can really change and enhance the shape of your eyes, depending on how you apply it. It’s definitely something which improves with practice, and as the years have gone by I’ve changed how I like it to look. From wanting a thick, dramatic wing to a simple, subtle flick. But I was never able to achieve the level of subtlety I craved.
So I fell out of love with eyeliner
Recently however, whilst flicking through Instagram stories, I came across I Covet Thee applying eyeliner after mascara. And of course I was intrigued. And of course it’s changed my life.
No longer do I apply ‘too much’ eyeliner. I’m able to see clearer how much I need thanks to fuller lashes and it has drastically improved the evenness of the flicks. They’re looking more and more like twins than sisters everyday without the need for hundreds of cotton wool buds to clean the mistakes! I’m even able to use felt tip liners now, as opposed to liquid liners which makes the whole process quicker and easier. Ain’t nobody got time to spend hours applying eyeliner.
This is also perfect for if you get indecisive about whether you feel like wearing eyeliner or not. It’s never too late.
The love has returned even stronger
So here’s my fool proof guide for perfect eyeliner every time!
- Curl the lashes. This step is vital for me as my lashes are so straight and in need of a boost. I use the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler which has lasted well over a year and is still going strong. (But is way pricier than I remember it was lol oops).
- Apply your mascara – focus on the roots for added volume before brushing through the length of the lashes. I use the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara as it helps my rubbish lashes to look like normal ones 🙂 lol.
- Draw the wings before applying the eyeliner to the lash line. I find I don’t need to go as far along my eye as I used to – 1/3 does the trick. I currently use the L’oreal Super Liner Superstar which isn’t as pigmented as I’d like but still does the trick. There are definitely better eyeliners out there.
Next time you decide to add a flick to your look, do things backwards. It might change your life too!
