Why you should own houseplants

It’s no secret I love a good house plant. They bring so much life and character to a space. Why buy decor when you can buy a living thing which will grow and flourish under your care? Mine are pretty much my babies, and I’m not ashamed to say it.

I only really became interested in plants over the past year and I feel they have made a huge difference to me. My uni room became a much nicer place to be in. There was also something about caring for something which helped me to feel a bit better when I wasn’t feeling great. Watering my plants became a sort of self-care routine for me, such as washing my face or brushing my teeth. In a way, it reminded me to look after myself too. Which is really important.

When I moved home for Summer, my plants came too. But as I mentioned in a previous post, my mum killed one of my babies. The horror. And after completely rearranging my bedroom and building a new storage/shelving unit from ikea (I’m a flat pack queen), it became my mission to fill my room with more green. More life. More OXYGEN.

So that’s exactly what I did. And what I think you should do too.

My first houseplant – the string of hearts – now has three new friends. A fellow trailing plant – the ivy, a small tree type plant and some purple flowers. Very technical names I know.

Now when it comes to houseplants, I’m a green girl. I’d rather have a beaut bunch of fresh cut flowers than a growing, potted flowering plant. But I couldn’t resist the splash of purple these flowers add to my room. And they remind me of my dad daily.

I even bought a little watering can to boujee up my routine.

Can you call watering cans boujee?

I highly recommend houseplants to anyone to liven up your interiors and boost your mood. And to be honest, they’re pretty instagram worthy – you can’t argue with that. #morelife

I should start putting plants in my apartment. Maybe start with something simple to take care of like cactus because I don’t have experience.

Love this! I barely started with “a garden” if you can call it that. It’s really just cilantro on my balcony haha but I am liking the greenery so far. I think I might start growing my own pretty plants — but my room doesn’t get a lot of natural light 🙁 . Love the ones you have! Keep us updated 🙂
