A lil’ First Impressions of The Body Shop®

body shop first impression

The Body Shop® is a brand I very much neglect. It’s not often I even remember it exists, but recently a few of their products have been catching my eye. They seem to have expanded a lot since I last looked at their ranges, with the new Oils of Life™, Drops of Youth™ and Drops of Light™ ranges. Not to mention the Expert Facial Masks which I will definitely be investing in one day. They seem to becoming a bit more luxurious and enticing.

Me trying to be good to Mr Santander, I only went for what I needed. An eye cream and a dedicated night cream. Up until now I’ve been using the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and the original Ultra Facial Cream on top before bed, however recently I stocked up on the new SPF version! And of course I don’t need or want SPF on my face when I go to sleep. So here we are!

It’s also very rare I write a first impressions post. I tend to only talk about products I know I love, as who knows if they’ll end up being rubbish, right? But I thought it could be interesting to mix things up and see how my thoughts and opinions change about products over time. So I plan to head back to this post, updating it on how I’m finding them. But for now, here are my first impressions after a couple of days usage!

Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Sleeping Cream

body shop first impressionThis is of course a night cream – although I looove the title ‘sleeping cream‘ – which is said to revitalise and nourish the skin overnight whilst also reducing the appearance of ageing. What more could you want?

This comes in a super luxe glass pot which makes the product look very expensive. Which is right, as this range doesn’t seem to ever be part of any promotions. For example there was a 3 for 2 offer on at the time of purchasing and this didn’t qualify for that which sucks.

On first impressions this product has more of a rich, whipped gel texture, than a cream which I wasn’t expecting. It is also quite heavily scented (sort of earthy, floral and musky at the same time) due to the 7 essential oils within it – think lavender, orange peel, rosemary leaf oils etc. I’m pretty unfussed by this but again I wasn’t really expecting it. I think scents can be good (as long as they’re not gross hahah) as they can become part of your routine. The association of this scent and going to sleep may become a big part of my unwinding before bed – who knows!

The ‘cream’ goes on quite oily but quickly sinks into the skin leaving it almost matte. Great if you hate the feeling of oily products on your face. But since this is an Oils of Life™ product, I expected and want to be super greased up lol. Nonetheless I woke up with skin feeing supple, plump and hydrated and I can’t wait to see how it affects my skin with regular usage!

Vitamin E Eye Cream

body shop first impressionI have a love hate relationship with eye creams. As I’ve mentioned before, I find my eyes to be a problem area of mine. Think dark circles, fine lines, and recently dry, itchy skin. Looovely.

This product is said to reduce the appearance of fine lines and dark circles, and at this point in my life I never really believe these claims anymore haha. I’ve found the best product for dark circles is The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution. So I’m not too fussed about finding this in an eye cream. My main concern at the moment is the dry, itchy almost eczema like skin surrounding my eyes.

Looking for something super hydrating but not heavy – in comes this Vitamin E offering. Now I’m pretty sure I’ve used this product before, maybe when I was about 13. But recently I noticed this contains the King that is hyaluronic acid!! I’m not sure if this is a recent update to the product, but I certainly don’t remember it being in it before lol. Hyaluronic acid is known for it’s amazing hydrating properties – it can hold up to 100 times it’s weight in water! So of course this is going to be amazing. Whilst vitamin E is also known to be a good anti-ageing ingredient. Perfect.

On first (or rather second?) impressions this is a light, creamy lotion which is easily absorbed into the delicate skin around my eyes leaving it feeling instantly smooth and hydrated. Bye bye dry patches! So far no complaints.

So those are my first impressions! Who knows how my opinions may change over time and if I’ll even still be using them after a few months. Stay tuned to find out!
