Keeping my skin plump and hydrated this winter

hydrated winter skin

When it comes to my skin, I’m allllll about the hydration. As a teen hearing moisture and oil is good for oily skin, I was pretty sceptical. I was also so convinced I had oily skin, just because I’d get a shiny noise throughout the day. But last year I had a skincare consultation at Kiehl’s, where they told me my skin isn’t oily at all, in fact it was creeping into the dry/normal category. Who knew. And since then, I threw caution to the wind and have fully embraced the oil life. Oils, serums, thick night creams. Give me it all and I’ll slap it on my skin. Especially during the winter months.

I’ve been being pretty consistent with my night time skincare lately, taking my time to really enjoy the whole routine. I love to sit at my desk and layer the products on slowly massaging them into my skin. And I’m totally reaping the benefits of waking up with smooth, plump skin. Ain’t no wind gonna dry my skin out today, no sir.

So what have I been using?

Serum

I’ve been using a couple of drops of The Ordinary’s Buffet serum as my first step towards hydration. I mentioned this beauty in this post, and I’m still loving it. My first ever serum I’ve owned is still going strong with no signs of running out yet. Packed full of hyaluronic acid it boosts hydration, stimulates collagen and reduces fine lines. I’m all about anti ageing now I’m ancient and in my 20s so this is perfect for me. It’s super light and absorbs into the skin effortlessly, for an instant moisture hit.

Night Cream

This is the most recent purchase to my routine and is from The Body Shop. This is the Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Sleeping Cream. With it’s rich, whipped gel texture it sinks into the skin pretty quickly leaving an almost matte finish. In my first impressions post I said how this product was heavily scented but this is something I no longer notice. It nourishes my skin overnight leaving it supple and plump, providing a great replenishing barrier.

Oil

And finally, the night oil. Now I’m never really sure what comes first, the oil or the moisturiser? The chicken or the egg? I google it all the time and forever get a different answer. So I tend to alternate depending on how I’m feeling on the day. But I think the majority of the time I like to use the oil last. And of course for this I’m still using my original bottle of Midnight Recovery Concentrate, it’s been well over a year since I bought this, I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever use it up. This is a cult product that I could not be without, mentioned in this Kiehl’s blog post and this 5 to try post, I obviously love the glow it gives my skin. I apply 3 drops directly to my face, to avoid any waste and massage it in. It’s subtle lavender scent is super relaxing and makes the whole experience more luxurious.

So those are the products I’m using. This is my skin’s favourite cocktail to drink up and I wake up with baby smooth, hydrated skin.

Whatever the winter weather, I’m ready for it.
