When I first started this blog, one of the posts I was most excited to write about was my skincare routine. I just love skincare chat so much. I’ve since written about skincare many times. But it’s actually been a hot minute since I last delved into my full routine, so I figured I’d write an updated version of this post for 2018. And you may have noticed
a lot has changed, there are even more products oops.
I take so much pleasure out of completing my routine every day and night. It’s almost like a ritual. But I personally don’t think the products you use matter as much as being consistent does. I mean it does help to like what you use. But I always see such a huge change in my skin when I actually just stick to a routine. So here’s what I’ve been using.
The moment I wake up… before I put on my make up… I like to keep things pretty simple. Gentle skincare which I know will keep my skin hydrated and protected throughout the day. Whilst also acting as a nice base for makeup if that’s how I’m feeling.
So first things first I like to use Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser. This is a super dreamy, gentle cleanser which is definitely a gel not a milk. I apply one pump to dry skin, massage it in, add a bit of water and rinse it off with a warm, damp flannel. Although the instructions say to use 3 pumps you will instantly regret this like I did; 1 pump is plenty to leave your skin feeling fresh and nourished. It does have a subtle rose scent, which honestly I wish it didn’t, but other than that it’s beaut.
Once my face is dry I give it a quick spritz of Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir which I recently rediscovered. Super refreshing and soothing to the skin. Supposedly it smoothes fine lines and tightens pores but who knows really? On top of this I apply a couple of drops of the Glossier Super Bounce Serum which is basically Hylauronic Acid. That ol’ guy again. This one does have a milky texture and absorbs into the skin effortlessly leaving it a smooth and well, bouncy surface. My skin texture has definitely improved a lot recently which I think may be thanks to this super hydrating babe.
Next I apply the Body Shop Vitamin E eye cream – which is the ONLY product that can fight off my dry, itchy (eczema prone) eyes. Honestly like magic. For moisturiser, I recently reintroduced a bit of Liz Earle into my routine in the form of her Skin Repair Moisturiser. After stealing my sister’s for a while I finally gave in and bought my own – with my boots points! No spending here, don’t you worry. I love this stuff. Super thick and so moisturising, a little goes a very long way and I find the scent so nostalgic.
Of course If I’m venturing outdoors I need an SPF. The best being the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid SPF 50. This suncream is pretty pricey for the size of the bottle but it’s honestly the best I’ve ever used. It’s so thin, soaks in without a trace, and leaves no greasy white cast behind. An actual miracle.
And finally I swipe on a bit of the Glossier Balm Dot Com. I have this in both the cherry and birthday flavours each equally as delicious, giving super smooth but matte lips. And I am good to go.
In the evenings I like to put a bit more effort and attention into my skincare. Fully taking my time with it and enjoying the process.
I’ve mentioned before how much I love a good double cleanse, and I’m still very much into it. If you need a refresher this is when you do a 1st cleanse to remove dirt, makeup, spf etc. followed by a 2nd cleanse to clean your actual skin. Super simple. My first cleanse of choice lately has been the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil. I love cleansing oils a lot and they’re the only thing I really trust to break all the gross stuff down. I do think I prefer the balm version of this cleanser but the oil is equally as good. Simple, unscented, effective – it gets the job done whilst still feeling luxurious. Again I apply to dry skin, add water, and remove with a warm, damp flannel.
I then go in with another pump of the Glossier Milky Jelly as my second cleanse, this time applying to damp skin. Next is time for a lil acid toner exfoliation, and of course I’m still into the Pixi Glow Tonic on the daily. Simple, easy exfoliation and glowy skin. But sometimes I’ll switch things up and go for the Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner which I find to be a tad stronger and more effective. Whichever I go for, I always follow with a couple more sprays of the Caudalie Beauty Elixir again.
Lately I’ve been using a few drops of the Glossier Super Pure Serum at night which is Niacinamide and Zinc. This one’s supposed to be great for breakouts and helps to decongest the skin which I like to get to work overnight. I’ve not been using this for long enough to really have an opinion on it but I think so far it is preventing new breakouts but not really speeding up the current ones either, so we’ll see. This serum is slightly more tacky than the Super Bounce so I like to let this soak in while I brush my teeth before going in with the Body Shop eye cream again.
Finally I massage in some more Liz Earle moisturiser followed by a couple of drops of my all time fave Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. A quick swipe of the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on my lips – a super heavy duty, glossy lip balm – and I’m ready for bed.
And then I wake up and do the whole thing all over again!
So that’s it. I love to hear what other people slap on their faces so let me know in the comments below. I’ll try not to get too tempted to buy them…
