Skincare. My one true love in life.
Something I always, always come back to on this piece of the web is my skin. With the new year here I figure it’s always a good time for a lil’ product update. Plus it’s been about a year since my last routine post, so how can I resist really?
Recently I lined up all the products I intended to use one evening, and I have to say it does seem excessive. I’ve unintentionally been moving into the Korean 10 step routine territory. But honestly, I’m not mad at it. My skin has been very good to me lately, with minimal breakouts minus the odd hormonal occurrence. My main issues atm are scarring which seems to be finally fading thanks to some of the new products I’ve been using.
I may even go as far as to say my skin is the best it’s been in a while… maybe.
When it comes to the PM, I’m still very much into double cleansing in my routine. My current first cleanse of choice is the Disciple Night Shift oil cleanser. When it comes to removing makeup, there is nothing better than an oil cleanser. Massaged onto dry skin, this product feels luxurious, with an intoxicating neroli scent, which instantly transforms my bathroom into a spa. Unlike other oil cleansers I’ve tried in the past, this contains alpha hydroxy acids making my skin super clean, soft and exfoliated all in one step.
Next up is the Botanics All Bright Cleanser, and I know, foam washes are the devil. But this baby is soap free and super gentle so we’ll forgive it. I also use this as my AM cleanser mainly due to the ease. I find the combination of these to work super well together for my skin, leaving it a fresh and clean base on the daily. Occasionally if I feel my skin needs something a little extra or I’m wanting to fake tan, I’ll use the Drunk Elephant Juju Bar. Super detoxifying with thermal mud and tiny exfoliating bamboo grains, it’s a nice lil pick me up.
Of course when it comes to toners I go to Pixi. Lately I’ve been enjoying their two latest toners, Glow Tonic who? It’s all about the Rose Tonic and my favourite Retinol Tonic. An incredible gentle form of retinol, this was an excellent first choice which I think helped to reduce break outs and even my skin tone over time. I’m unsure if this helped to reduce any signs of ageing but I’d like to think it did haha. This is a product I think I will always keep to fall back on and use in between stronger retinol products, which is why I’m no longer regularly using it. The rose tonic on the other hand is super hydrating and nourishing, helping to balance the skin pH post cleanse. This I use AM and PM when I’m being well behaved.
When it comes to serums I think I’ve found my place in hydrating serums, a step I cannot skip in the routine. Drunk Elephant’s B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum is a gel formula packed full of vitamin B5 and pineapple ceramides. Unlike other serums I’ve tried this sinks into the skin effortlessly leaving it smooth and plump with no sticky residue. I use this both AM and PM to amplify and attract extra moisture from anything applied on top.
One of the most important parts of my skincare routine is eye cream. As someone with very sensitive, dry under-eyes I can be quite nervous to try new products. But so far so good with the Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream. With a cocktail ingredient list of plenty of peptides and vitamin C, this lil baby works wonders on my under-eyes, keeping them firm and hydrated. Incredibly expensive but worth it perhaps?
At night I like to use a couple of drops of the Disciple Dreamy Skin Retinyl Oil. I don’t think I’ve really been using this product for long enough to review it properly. But I do think this is the addition to my routine making the most difference to my skin lately. My scarring from previous breakouts have faded drastically and my skin tone looks even and radiant. I am shooketh. Retinol I love you. And finally I seal this all in with an old favourite, the Clinique Moisture Surge. An amazing easily absorbed, juicy moisturiser. This also makes a great base for makeup in the morning.
So that’s about it. Other than these stable products, I like to use the odd sheet mask when my skin is in need of something a little more. I’m pretty settled with this line up of products and don’t see myself changing for a while. I guess we can wait another year till I update this again ha.
Fancy a look at my routine through the ages?
